Eggo in the Oven

I love supporting other moms and their creative talents. Lately, I have found myself loving a few specific companies. Take a moment to check them out and the wonderful products they are offering. This post will be the beginning of series focusing on how you can support moms!

Eggo in the Oven

If you are in need of custom made baby clothes, you must check out Kim's work. I found her through my favorite non-profit, Wyatt's Warmth and the amazing tshirts she made (featuring my donated logo to Wyatt's Warmth). As I flipped through her posted pictures on facebook, I fell in love. Her work is classic, but modern. After seeing a baseball onesie she had custom made for a client, I knew I needed one for Huddy. I contacted her, sent over a jpg of my idea, and she quickly sent back her plan. I was super pleased with her ideas and placed my order. A couple of weeks later I received this adorable shirt in the mail.

I was incredibly pleased with her work. Her stitching is very clean and the overall quality is wonderful! Her pricing is also very affordable and remember everything is custom, so just like my company The Individuality, your choices matter! Huddy will be sporting this while hunting Easter eggs with his baseball basket!

A New Hobby

I am an avid collector of hobbies. It is actually an addiction and I can't stop. I recently became part of a wonderful group of crafting ladies online and it has been quite the inspiration. The beautiful items they create keep me in awe every single day. If I could choose any craft to just pick up and add into my life, it would be sewing, without a doubt. My Granny taught me at a very early age and I love it. However, I do not own a sewing machine and for now it is just not at the top of the budget.

So this left me researching other avenues to send my creativity into. I wanted something very hands on and not at all digital. I spend all day working on the computer (trust me I love it) but I want something to get me away for at least a few minutes a day. I have tossed around the possibility of exploring knitting or crocheting but always felt quite overwhelmed. After a trip to Hobby Lobby with my mom a few days ago, I decided on crocheting.

This little kit will be my guide, as well as many, many online tutorials. Yes, I know I wanted to get away from the computer, but it is nice to actually watch someone do this very tedious little craft.

I am currently just playing around with the stitches and teaching my hands how to hold the hook and yarn. I think it will take a bit of time before I am able to complete anything that I am truly happy with or that is worth showing off. But for now, it is something to occupy my time and allow me to express my creativity in a different way.

This is what I have so far. I honestly don't know what it is or what it will be, but I can already see improvement from my first row to the last.

On the Sunnyside

I woke up super early this morning and was at the computer by 5am. I must admit I have been really bitter the past few days. I don't accept change well and I often struggle to move past what is comfortable.

I ALWAYS have music on, it is actually an obsession. I can't work without music. This song came across my slacker play list and might be the exact words I needed to hear in my life right now. This is a very old song and has been recorded by many wonderful artists over the years, but I will include the Brad Paisley version as it is the version I heard this morning.

Keep On The Sunny Side of Life

There's a dark and a troubled side of life
There's a bright and a sunny side, too
Tho' we meet with the darkness and strife
The sunny side we also may view

Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side,
Keep on the sunny side of life
It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way
If we'll keep on the sunny side of life

Tho' the storm in its fury broke today,
Crushing hopes that we cherished so dear;
Storm and cloud will in time pass away
The sun again will shine bright and clear.

Let us greet with a song of hope each day
Tho' the moments be cloudy or fair
Let us trust in our Saviour alway
Who keepeth everyone in His care.

I must also include one more version that I just came across because it reminds me of listening to music with my Granny. I can remember from a very early age seeing my Granny covered in flour from making biscuits with her radio turned way up.

Sunnyside Baptist Church

I recently had the opportunity to develop a new logo for a self proclaimed,"God-Exalting, Christ-Centered, Spirit-Driven Old Country Church". It has been a joy to watch the endeavors of this church as my cousin Mat is the pastor. I was thrilled when he contacted me and even more excited as we began to discuss the beautiful results of great typography. He requested something timeless, classic, & tasteful. This allowed me to work on something a bit outside of the norm and to explore a variety of serif fonts.

I am quite happy with the outcome and love the simplicity of this logo. I also love the particular font we used for the word Sunnyside. It has a bit of casualness about it that for me evokes the ministry this church portrays to an outside.

Enjoy! Also check out the wonderful things my cousin is doing over at Sunnyside Baptist Church.

Per Se Photography

I couldn't have been happier with the winner of my giveaway, although I would have been more than happy to work on ALL of the entries.

I knew I would fall in love with this one from my very first visit to her website. The following is an excerpt from the beginning of the logo design process.

"I love that natural beauty that you seem to capture with your lens. Unfortunately, in the age of digital technology, the true art of photography seems to be dwindling away. However, when I find a photographer with a portfolio such as yours, I am filled with happiness."

We went through a few ideas before finally deciding that a simple font based logo would represent her work perfectly. Please enjoy the final logo and check out her photography at: http://www.persephotography.com/.

Easter Table Decorations

I am so bummed that my copy of Southern Living was lost in the mail this month, but the website is just as much fun!

Check our these Easter Table Decorations for ideas on how you can spruce up your dining room. A lot of these items look fairly easy to create without very much work.

**All Images Courtesy of: Southernliving.com

I like the simplicity of this table.
Plastic eggs are really easy to work with and honestly what small child doesn't like bright plastic eggs?
Vibrant Easter Table

I am loving just how kid friendly this table is setup.
It is snacktime and a mini Easter egg hunt all rolled into one.

We love the Braves!!!

Tomorrow will officially kick off the start of this years trips to Turner Field. I have loved the Braves since I was very young, thanks to my PawPaw! Spencer still says that my love of the Braves is what convinced him that I was the one for him! In honor of the 2011 season, I thought I would take a little trip through the years of Braves games with my sweet husband.

A dying art form?

I was a bit saddened today when I was realized that individuals are purchasing logos through the popular website, Etsy, for literally nothing. As a graphic designer with a passion for the field, this hurts. I know this is a bit of overreacting, but at the same time typography to me is an art form that should be held in the highest respect.

A true lover of typography does more than simply open a vector based program, type in your business name, save you a couple of file extensions and send you on your way. Each letter is special to me and the space between the letters is an opportunity to really show off my skills (amazing lesson from the best professor in the field at The University of Alabama). The choice between serif and sans serif isn't decided on a whim, it is a calculated decision based on the target audience. Colors are chosen based on color theory and the emotion that each individual color evokes and how it relates to the company's message. I could go on, but I will stop.

Basically, I hope that the cheaper versions of "logos" don't muddy the field and kill the art form. I think this is a battle that photographers fight on a daily basis, and sadly as a graphic designer, I will fight the same battle. The battle between quality and price.

Feeling good....

Today was a good day. A great day actually. I am now officially a business owner, of an officially opened business. If I could wear a little name tag that says owner every day, I probably would. Considering Huddy is the only person I see most days, I am sure he wouldn't mind.

My very first grand opening day consisted of a few wonderful leads and projects that I can not wait to dive into. I love logo design and I have 2 very similar, yet strikingly different logos on my plate right now. It amazes me how two logos in the same field can have such different needs and how those needs can be met with something as simple as the choice between serif or sans serif. Yes, the girl who loves typography is definitely taking over right now.

There will be wonderful, beautiful, exciting additions to the blog next week...trust me on that one.

Also, The Individuality is currently hosting 3 giveaways in celebration of our grand opening. Please visit the following 3 links for your chance to win.
